The number of therapy hours recommended for a child is based on a comprehensive assessment completed before services begin. Your child’s BCBA considers age, developmental needs, learning style, and your family’s goals when recommending a level of support.
Research on early intensive behavioral intervention suggests that many young children with autism benefit from 25−40 hours per week of structured, individualized learning opportunities, especially during the early developmental years. This intensity helps children practice new skills more often and across a wider range of situations, which can support stronger progress in communication, social interaction, play, and independence.
At ContextABA, these hours do not look like traditional classroom instruction all day. Learning happens through a mix of structured teaching, play, movement, social interaction, outdoor activities, snack time, and everyday routines. Our goal is to create many meaningful learning opportunities within engaging, developmentally appropriate experiences.
Not every child needs the same number of hours. After the assessment, we review our recommendations with families so they can make informed decisions about the level of support that feels appropriate for their child.
